Understanding Drug & Alcohol Testing

Understanding Drug and Alcohol Testing is available as a meeting with HR and any other decision makers concerning substance testing, or as a presentation at conferences.

In person or virtual
At the employer meetings, I explain and discuss every type of testing available, the pros and cons of each testing method, as well as best practices of each type of testing. Most often, the discussion lends itself to different types of testing depending on the situation. Informed decisions can be made for pre- employment, for cause, reasonable suspicion, random, accident, injury, and any other specific testing need a client may encounter. To date, most employers have made changes to their methods of testing per incidence. For Regulated testing, the specific agencies’ requirements for testing are confirmed and implemented.

Conference / Meetings
The conference setting is an educational presentation of testing options, the pros, and cons of each testing method, as well as the best practices of each type of testing. Attendees receive a solid education on this significant area of their employer policies. This allows the attendee to share the information within the organization to establish specific testing methods that best meet their needs.
“Understanding Drug and Alcohol Testing” is my most requested conference presentation.

Reasonable Suspicion Supervisor Training; non-DOT

In person training provides the most inclusive results and proven effective program using an associated recall process. This type of training is considered to provide solid results. I have been performing this program for 18+ years for employers.

Supervisors are highly involved with this behavioral and evidential training. With-in the presentation, the participants are shown actual paraphernalia and concealment packages confiscated in industry. Workplace usage, substantiated detection education, support refresher information, instructions on how to manage the employee when detection occurs, and a “Reasonable Suspicion / For Cause” document is provided. The interactive program, combined with the documentation page, results in a solid, documented process to determine the next steps of action.

The BIG Three:
Cocaine, Marijuana and Alcohol

I will address the top three (3) substance of abuse in the workplace. The educational presentation will include Behavioral and Evidential detection education, paraphernalia and concealment packages. This eye opening presentation also addresses the suggested testing methods for specific incidents or reason to test. The BIG Three: Cocaine, Marijuana and Alcohol is a strong 45 minutes presentation. This educational presentation will captivate attendees and share important aspects of the top three substances used in the workplace.

Policy Review - Drug and Alcohol

It is imperative an employer’s drug and alcohol policy clearly provides a statement of purpose identifying reasons for the testing and type of testing to be performed. As shared in the “Understand Drug and Alcohol Testing”, under Education and Training programs, pre-employment may require a different type of testing choice than injury, as well as other reasons for substance testing in the workplace. OSHA does not allow “blanket” testing; hence clarity is of up-most importance.
